I'm somewhat surprised by what this farmer had to say at the start. My first encounter with Boer goats was in the early nineties. My father rent a hangar for his Cessna from a farmer that had switched from sheep to Boer goats. That farmer said he loved the hardiness of the goats. The sheep needed heaps of attention and they would get together and just decide to die for no apparent reason. The goats needed the bare minimum attention. Even when the farm became very dry and there were big dust storms he could just leave the goats out. It seems farmer Larry is keeping his animals on a farm where the climate is very different from what works best for Boer goats. Side note, even though it is more than 30 years ago, I remember this farmer made the best biltong and droëwors I have ever tasted in my life from the meat of his goats. He was a total trailblazer. You can find all sorts of biltong in every shop, even ostrich, but no Boerbok.

So great, if possible more details about formulation coz me i just take my few goats to graze and call it a day.

Do you ever have to mow the lines where the fence is to keep the grass off of it? My goats don't graze very closely to electric net and am afraid that if I left the fencing up permanently during the grazing season, too much grass would grow up, in, and through it, and therefore reduce the charge.

Good afternoon. We have a buck who recently became ill; loss of energy, poor appetite, fever, diarrhea. Our initial thoughts were coccidia/pneumonia. we treated with corrid/ oxytetracycline IM/ fluid+electrolyte drenches/ ASA . After inspecting his mucous membranes, he was pretty anemic. I bought the CuSO4 crystals a while back after watching this video and reading the thesis so we drenched him according to this recipe. The copper sulfate drench was a few days ago. With all the treatment, he seems to be slowly regaining energy. I'm considering also administering some moxidectin. I didn't want to start with moxidectin since we were giving aspirin to reduce his fever and I felt there was a risk of internal bleeding if all the worms detached at once. All of our veterinarians have been closed due to the holiday or I would have driven him over by now. What are your thoughts? I'd appreciate any feedback or advice you have to offer.

The great thing with goats (and sheep) is that their droppings are just little pellets. They break down quickly, returning the nutrients back into the soil.

I have one. I really like it. It's a few hundred feet from the house, and I like being able to look outside at night before I go to bed and know that my fence is still on. I also like the noise if your close to it.

Yes keeping attention to your animals is great but what happens when you buy an animal that's already overloaded or go to an auction and get an animal obviously I need help with those so it's not just so straightforward is keeping an eye on your animals people get new ones all the time

Anecdotal evidence is what scientists say is out side the microscope. I disagree with the statements about vinegar. The reason is its scientifically proven that white vinegar kills e coli, listeria and salmonella. All bacterias that are produced in the ruminate therefore changing the ph balance will shock or kill the growth of the bacteria and help to stop the transition into the bloodstream. In the case of listeriosis which needs a ph of 5.2 and 37 degree Celsius to grow at optimal levels, in combination with your antibiotic, its reasonable to me to feed the sheep pickle juice (with garlic) as it is an acid based electrolyte as well. Has it been in a control study situation? I really don't know. But we do know that bacteria have optimal conditions for growth, so if you change that, it may give you time and timing is at the center of any treatment. One must think of what to do in the absence of all the wonderful pharmaceutical we have access too and remember what we did in the past.

I have personally "gone over" a lot of the studies you mentioned and concurre with what you're saying. I look after thousands of sheep that come from many places and only had 2 cases of barber pole in 7 years. Our x factor is, we graze in a arid climate and worm once a year. Sheep are moved every day in the beginning of the grazing season.

I just lost my much loved pet wether from urinary calculi at the age of just over 2 years. He received two cups of Purina Sweet Goat a day. I believe this processed concentrate is what killed him through "over nutrition" and it has depressed me over several days. I have stopped all grain to the other whether I have. If you are not breeding for weight, I now think they do not need grain if they get hay and brushwood and a mineral block. I now give sunflower seeds to get him in. My vet now advises not to feed grain to pet wethers, but ironically this is not the advice I received two years back, which was "he does not need much." Lesson learned the hardest possible way.

💯 IT DONT WORK and this is why. One DE is wet it no longer cuts the exoskeleton of the parasites. Saliva, stomach acid.....done don't work. I told people this for years
